Leather identification: the main difference between PU leather and PVC leather
Company News
2022-07-23

Synthetic leather other than leather is generally called PVC and PU leather, which is called artificial leather or imitation leather. PVC and Pu are both polyvinyl chloride (one of plastics), but the manufacturing processes of the two products are different.

In the manufacturing process of PVC leather, first melt the plastic particles into dough, apply it evenly on the t/c knitting base according to the specified thickness, and then enter the foam furnace, which has the softness suitable for the production of a variety of products, and carry out surface treatment (dyeing, embossing, polishing, matting, grinding stone).

PU leather is more complicated than PVC leather in the manufacturing process. Pu base cloth is canvas PU material with good tensile strength, so it can not only be painted on the base cloth, but also include the middle base cloth. The existence of the cloth with no end can be seen from the outside. PU leather has better physical properties than PVC leather, with twists and turns, softness, tensile strength and permeability (no PVC). The pattern on PVC leather is hot pressed by the pattern roller made of steel. The pattern of PU leather is to use a kind of pattern paper to paste heat stickers on the surface of semi-finished leather, wait for cooling, and then separate the paper sheets for surface treatment. The price of PU leather is more than twice that of PVC leather. For some special requirements, the price of PU leather is 2 ~ 3 times higher than that of PVC leather. The pattern paper required for ordinary PU leather can only be discarded for 4 ~ 5 times. Due to the long service life of fancy roller, the cost of PU leather is higher than that of PVC leather. There are also some differences in the scope of application of the two materials. In the case of shoes, PVC leather is mostly used to make parts that do not bear the lining or weight or children's shoes. PU leather can be applied to the fabric of shoes or parts bearing weight. PVC leather is widely used in bags. Because the things in the bag are different from the feet in the shoes, they won't get hot. No need to bear personal weight.

PU leather

Due to the flexibility, ductility, toughness, instability affected by temperature, environmental friendliness of PVC products, which do not meet the requirements of society and commodity market, PU synthetic leather is produced.

At first, PU leather was unprecedentedly developed and used in clothing, which laid a solid foundation for the diversification and multi-quality development of PU leather in the future. Then, PU leather achieved multi-quality development in bags, shoes and other products, but the production and manufacturing of PU synthetic leather is more complex, and the price of raw materials is higher. PU leather has also produced corresponding high prices while meeting social needs.

The difference between Pu and PVC is relatively easy. From the corner, the cost is much thicker than PVC, and the feel is also different. Pu feels soft. PVC feels harder. It can also be burned. Pu tastes much lighter than PVC.
